Kenyatta University donated books to the Community Library initiative by EGR and YALI Rwanda Chapter

Kenyatta University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Paul Wainaina, accompanied by the YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa Staff, made a generous donation of 200 books to the Community Library initiative by Edified Generation Rwanda (EGR) and YALI Rwanda chapter. The event took place on 7th March 2024 at Edified Generation Rwanda’s Offices, and was graced by YALI RLC EA Alumni from Rwanda, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda, and Kenya, who attended the YALI Legacy Localization design Charette in Kigali.

The Community Library is one of the components of the NTARAMA Community Knowledge Hub, established in partnership with Edified Generation Rwanda. The library seeks to promote a reading culture among community members and help them acquire new skills through reading. It was inaugurated in January 2024 and currently has a collection of over 3000 books and internet access, with more than 300 weekly readers.

The primary goal of the library is to enhance its collection of books and set up a computer lab to provide digital skills and information access to the communities. The library is located in Bugesera District, Ntarama sector, Cyugaro cell.

This donation is a significant milestone towards achieving these goals, and the communities are grateful for the support received from Kenyatta University and YALI RLC EA Staff. The reading culture initiative has been a success, with many community members expressing their interest in reading and gaining new skills
